Carringbush has a vibrant and professional volunteering program with volunteers currently active in the following roles:
English Tutors
Volunteers support learning outcomes for students in a variety of English as an Additional Language class.
Employment Mentors
Volunteers support English as an Additional Language students to define careers pathways, develop resumes, apply for jobs and secure work experience placements. Mentors work with students in one-on-one and small group settings.
Adult Literacy Tutors
The Carringbush Adult Literacy program supports adults in Yarra with low levels of English literacy to develop their skills through intensive tutoring with skilled volunteers. Tutors work one-to-one and with small groups to address the immediate learning needs of adults in their daily lives.
Children’s Play and Learning Support Volunteers
Children’s Play and Learning Support Volunteers assist young children from diverse backgrounds to develop a broad range of skills with a focus on early literacy, through play, craft, story-telling, songs and games.
Referral and Support Service Volunteers
Through the Community Information Centre (CIC), volunteers provide individualised support to adults with barriers to accessing services, education, and employment. Volunteers assess people’s needs to make referrals and take a strengths-based approach to support individuals in completing tasks such as but not limited to: filling forms, citizenship applications and tests, drivers licence preparation, job search, job interview preparation, resume and cover letter writing.
Catering Project Mentors
Skilled mentors with experience in catering and hospitality support participants in the Carringbush Catering Program to develop their professional catering and business operations skills.
Administration volunteers
Volunteers support office staff with administrative duties, assisting Carringbush to deliver high quality programs to people experiencing disadvantage.
Special Project Volunteers
Special Project Volunteers support Carringbush through internships, short term projects or in delivery of workshops.
