Education and Training

Carringbush takes a Community Development approach to education and training programs, ensuring that all of our courses are responsive to the needs in the community and accessible to community members who experience complex barriers to access and participation. 

Our pre-accredited programs are tailored to deliver content that supports adult EAL learners to pathway into vocational training and/or employment while supporting increased confidence to participate in local community activities and initiatives.

Accredited Programs

Carringbush delivers accredited English language classes through:

  • Adult Migrant Education Program (AMEP) funded by Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs

  • Skills for Education and Employment Program (SEE) funded by Commonwealth Department of Education, Skills and Employment

  • Skills First Program funded by Victorian Department of Education and Training

English classes range from pre-Certificate I to Certificate III and are delivered from a number of locations around Richmond and Collingwood, as well as delivered partially online using accessible platforms.  

Learners may be eligible to receive further support to participate online. 

2021 Courses

This course was developed to prepare adults learning English as an Additional Language.

It is a new course for pre-literate leaners who have experience disrupted schooling.  These learners need to develop an identity as a learner and establish learning routines. They need to develop basic decoding and encoding skills and handwriting skills, such as copying and hand eye co-ordination.

This course is for leaners that have experience disrupted schooling. These learners need to develop initial level basic learning skills prior to accessing further English language education and possible employment.

This course focuses on the development of English language speaking, listening, reading and writing skills directly related to immediate personal and social needs. There are electives selected to develop relevant social, settlement and numeracy skills and knowledge.

This course focuses on the development of English language speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Electives are selected to develop relevant knowledge and skill for everyday communication and community participation. Enables participants to engage in further education or employment.
